It feels like 2019 just started last week and we are already about to ring in the new year! How sway?!?

We had an AMAZING 2019. We launched the podcast and created a community of folks that love to talk about pop culture and science. We love all of you for all of your support during 2019, and we can not wait to bring you more in 2020!

It’s the end of the year, so Dope Labs is giving you a special treat for Lab 020: a mixtape to celebrate all of our top pop culture moments of 2019! From Megan Thee Stallion’s knees to social media apps aging us 50 years, we are breaking down the science behind it all. We chose 4 categories: music, sports, tech, and politics
MUSIC
Our top music artist of 2019 is Megan Thee Stallion. She took over the charts and the zeitgeist by declaring Hot Girl Summer. If you don’t know what that is click this link to read Megan’s explanation. One of the most fascinating things about Megan is her twerking ability. She gets low and STAYS low. So for this section we decided to take a closer look on what it takes for her to be able to do this.
SPORTS
Our top athlete of 2019 is Simone Biles. Simone Biles seems like she defies gravity with the stunts she does. She is the most decorated gymnast and is SO good that they are starting to name stunts after her. There is the Biles and the Biles II. TECH
Our top tech from 2019 is facial recognition technology. All of the social media apps use it, and most of us are guilty of indulging. We are partial to the flower crown and dog ears filters. This year we all decided to age ourselves 40 years using an app. In this section we talk about how this technology works AND the implications.
POLITICS
Out top politics moment from 2019 is the impeachment process. It seems like was on the tip of everyone’s tongue this year, but it also seemed like a lot of folks aren’t really sure how it works. In this section we take you from start to finish on impeachment and possible removal of an elected official.
